Telangana Municipal Election: The ruling Congress party has come out as the largest winner in the Telangana Municipal Elections 2026. According to the Telangana State Election Commission, Congress has won 1,537 wards in the municipal elections.

The principal opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has come second with 781 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 336 wards.

The elections were considered to be a three-way battle between the ruling Indian National Congress, BRS, and BJP.

The counting of votes started at 8 am on February 13 for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The voting had taken place earlier this week on a party basis. The elections were held to elect councillors and corporators.

A total of 10,719 candidates contested in 2,569 wards for 116 municipalities. For the seven municipal corporations, 2,225 candidates contested in 412 wards.

Exit polls conducted by Pulse Today had forecast that Congress would win between 68 and 76 municipalities. BRS would win 29 to 36 municipalities, while BJP would bag three to five municipalities. AIMIM would win one municipality.

Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy said that polling was conducted peacefully. Tight security arrangements were made across the state. However, minor clashes were reported in places like Karimnagar and Sangareddy.

The results are seen as a strong boost for the ruling Congress government in Telangana.
