Redmi Note 15, Redmi 15 and Redmi 15C prices hiked by up to ₹4,000 in India by Redmi
Redmi Note 15: Consistent with the general increasing cost trends among smartphones, three phones from Redmi are expected to see an increase in prices. These include the Redmi Note 15, Redmi 15, and Redmi 15C. The price increase varies according to different model and variants but goes up to ₹4,000. This is happening shortly after the phones were introduced into the market, showing that even recent launches cannot avoid changes in the market.
For a while now, the smartphone market in India has seen consistent increases in cost, attributed to increased costs in components. As it has already been observed, new launches are already considering higher costs. However, companies are now also revising the pricing of their products.
Revised prices of Redmi smartphones
The first example is the Redmi Note 15 that was released this year in January. The version of the smartphone with the following specs: 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage space has an increased price by ₹2,000 and is now sold at ₹24,999 compared to the previous price ₹22,999. However, there was a more significant increase of ₹3,000 for the variant with 8 GB + 256 GB of memory and now it costs ₹27,999.
The mid-range smartphone Redmi 15 became even more costly recently. Its price started at ₹14,999 when it was released but has been increased by ₹3,500, so now this smartphone is available starting from ₹18,499.
Another smartphone is the Redmi 15C that belongs to the low-cost smartphones and now became more expensive too. Initially, it cost ₹12,499 and now it will cost you ₹15,499 which is ₹3,000 more than before.
Why are prices increasing?
Despite Redmi providing no official statement on the causes of the price change, the industry trends indicate growing costs for components as one of the primary reasons. Growing prices on semiconductors, higher expenses related to logistics, and exchange rate volatility were some of the factors which led to the increase of production costs and, thus, made some of the costs transferred to customers inevitable.
Moreover, it is possible that such an approach is taken by Redmi as a part of the strategic repositioning of these gadgets in the current conditions of competition.
It should be noted that other brands take action along the same lines: the increase of prices is observed across the segment with Realme as one of the examples.
Are these phones still worth it?
It cannot be overlooked that the price jump leads one to think about whether these phones can still be considered affordable.
The Redmi Note 15 still holds its ground with its impressive display quality, stylish look, and solid camera capabilities during the daytime hours. It should also be mentioned that the phone is guaranteed to receive timely updates, making it more attractive for those seeking quality. However, considering that its performance was mediocre before, at this price, it might not seem appealing enough anymore.
The Redmi 15 still attracts those looking for a device with long battery life and smooth animations. The smartphone has a huge battery of 7,000mAh and a high refresh rate of 144 Hz. Nonetheless, with such an increase in price, customers would consider devices with better performance metrics.
Finally, the Redmi 15C will suit those willing to purchase a budget-friendly yet decent device. The smartphone comes with solid design, battery life, and performance. Nonetheless, with such an increase in cost, it will not compete with more advanced models anymore.
A shifting market landscape
Based on the mentioned price increments, there is a trend that has been observed in the smartphone market, and it involves redefining the affordable prices’ spectrum. Users who believed in the past that they received some functionality because of affordable prices might need to rethink their perception of the matter.
To sum up, the discussed price increments introduced by Redmi are viewed as strict increments; nevertheless, considering existing tendencies in the market, they might be deemed reasonable. The demand for smartphones still exists and whether or not one needs such device is a matter of personal judgment.
