Rajnath Singh in Australia
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Canberra on October 9, 2025, as part of his official visit to Australia. The main goal of the visit is to boost defence and strategic cooperation between India and Australia.
At the airport, he was welcomed by Peter Khalil, Australia’s Assistant Minister of Defence, and Vice Admiral Justin Jones, Chief of Joint Operations.
Rajnath Singh held talks with Australia’s Deputy PM and Defence Minister Richard Marles. He said on X (Twitter):
“We reviewed the full spectrum of India-Australia defence cooperation, including defence industry, cyber defence, maritime security, and regional challenges. We reaffirmed the importance of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
He also highlighted India’s growing defence industry and its role as a global source of high-quality defence technology, stressing the potential for deeper industry partnerships between the two countries.
A ‘Welcome to Country’ smoke ceremony was held at the Australian Parliament to honour Rajnath Singh. This traditional ceremony by Aboriginal Australians acknowledges the original custodians of the land and welcomes guests as a gesture of respect and reconciliation.
