Noida, Uttar Pradesh | August 24, 2025 — In a chain of startling dowry cases, Nikki’s mother-in-law has been arrested, while her husband, Vipin Bhati, was shot in the leg by UP Police during shooting an escape attempt.
Vipin Bhati was detained on Saturday, the 23rd of August, 2025, when a video showing Mr. Bhati seemingly assaulting his wife, Nikki, appeared and fueled outrage on social media, prompting a gambling swift reaction from law enforcement agencies.
As Mr. Bhati was being taken to the local police station, he allegedly tried to escape, prompting the police to open fire in order to prevent his getaway. He was hit in the leg and is now undergoing medical treatment while the investigation proceeds.
The mother-in-law too is in custody as the authorities continue to investigate her role in the alleged abuse and dowry demands. The police are looking at every angle, including possible accomplices to see the victim is given a remedy.
The matter has also again brought the topic of dowry violence in Uttar Pradesh to the forefront, thus calling for strict enforcement of laws and adequate safeguards for women in domestic settings.
