Must read

Nitish Kumar is expected to be sworn in alongside 18 ministers, including two deputy chief ministers, according to sources. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Dharmendra Pradhan, and chief ministers of at least seven NDA-ruled states are anticipated to attend the high-profile political demonstration of strength for the NDA.

Following the results of the 2025 Bihar assembly election, which saw the NDA—led by the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—secure a resounding majority with 202 out of 243 seats, the ceremony took place. With 89 seats, the BJP was the largest party, closely followed by JD(U) with 85. Among NDA allies, Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) won five, and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won nineteen.

Nitish Kumar, 75, first resigned as Chief Minister on Wednesday. He then presented Governor Arif Mohammed Khan with a new claim to form the new NDA government, supported by letters from all alliance partners. Prior to this, he was re-elected to lead the JD(U) legislature party and then the NDA legislature in Bihar.

Following their election as the BJP’s legislature party leader and deputy leader, respectively, Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha are anticipated to serve as deputy chief ministers in the new cabinet. In addition to discussing the important position of Assembly Speaker, NDA leaders convened on Wednesday to finalise the distribution of ministerial portfolios. Those chosen were notified prior to the ceremony, and the final list of ministers was anticipated to be delivered to the governor early on Thursday.

With this, Nitish Kumar solidifies his standing as one of Bihar’s most enduring and well-positioned political figures, having changed alliances several times while continuing to serve as Chief Minister.
