Namo Bharat RRTS: PM Modi Dedicates 82-km Delhi–Meerut Corridor to the Nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and dedicated the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the remaining sections of the country’s first RRTS network, marking a major milestone in India’s urban transport infrastructure.

At the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station, the Prime Minister flagged off the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro services. He later undertook a metro ride till Meerut South Station, interacting with students and passengers during the journey.

The Namo Bharat corridor, designed for a top speed of 180 km per hour, connects major urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut with Delhi. It aims to significantly reduce travel time while offering a modern, comfortable and high-speed commuting experience. Officials said the corridor will boost economic activity and regional connectivity across the National Capital Region.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains. With a maximum operational speed of around 120 km per hour, the Meerut Metro is now India’s fastest metro system. It covers the entire stretch in approximately 30 minutes, offering swift urban mobility within the city.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated and dedicated development projects worth around ₹12,930 crore in Meerut. Addressing the gathering, he said the projects would give fresh momentum to “Viksit Uttar Pradesh” and “Viksit Bharat.” He emphasised that the programme reflects the work culture of the BJP’s double-engine government and reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing projects within stipulated timelines.

Recalling his long association with Meerut, the Prime Minister noted that his national election campaigns in 2014, 2019 and 2024 began from this historic land. He expressed gratitude to the farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs of the region for their continued support.

Highlighting the rapid expansion of metro connectivity in India, Mr Modi said that before 2014, metro services operated in only five cities. Today, they are running in more than 25 cities, making India the third-largest metro network in the world. He described Uttar Pradesh as a land of hard work and creativity, stating that its farmers and artisans are successfully balancing heritage with development.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that as India’s global stature rises, developed nations are eager to sign trade agreements to leverage the country’s youth power. He added that India is now seen as a global powerhouse capable of addressing 21st-century challenges.

Referring to industrial growth, he noted that Uttar Pradesh is being transformed into a manufacturing hub and recently laid the foundation stone for the state’s first semiconductor factory. He stressed that a developed Uttar Pradesh is essential for achieving the vision of a developed India.

On the political front, Prime Minister Modi criticised the Congress over protests by its youth wing during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He said while citizens are working tirelessly for national progress, some political parties are unable to accept India’s success. He also thanked Congress allies for openly criticising the protest.
