Nandita Sinha set to step down as Sharon Pais emerges as frontrunner to lead Myntra

The appointment of a new CEO in one of India’s prominent online shopping portals, Myntra, will soon be seen in the news headlines, as Nandita Sinha is likely to leave the post very soon. This decision will prove to be a milestone for Myntra, a subsidiary of Flipkart, which is a part of Walmart Inc., one of the world’s largest retail companies.

According to information shared with Moneycontrol by anonymous sources, Sharon Pais, who is currently heading Flipkart Fashion, will be the frontrunner in taking charge of the post of CEO of Myntra. The official announcement from the firm regarding this issue remains silent.

Sinha’s departure marks the conclusion of a long and successful relationship with the Flipkart group. Over a decade of experience has been accumulated by her in the various leadership positions that she has held in the organization. Sinha joined the company in 2013, helping to establish and scale up numerous business verticals before moving on to lead Myntra since 2022. In addition to being Myntra’s CEO, Sinha also temporarily managed the fashion-related operations of Flipkart.

The decision comes against the backdrop of a significant development in the strategic direction of the Flipkart group. The IPO of the group has been eagerly anticipated this year and is an important step in its corporate development. At the same time, Myntra holds a prominent place among the group’s assets due to its high profitability and revenue generation potential.

Sharon Pais has emerged as an obvious choice for the mantle. As an experienced corporate player within the Myntra sphere, she has already held the position of the firm’s chief business officer and has always been a part of its success story. Moreover, her present position as the head of Flipkart Fashion has only added more credibility to her resume, enabling her to gain a thorough insight into the fashion segment of the group.

It is expected that with the appointment of Sharon Pais, there will be no disruption during such a critical period for the online retail sector.

Myntra, headquartered in Bengaluru, has made significant strides and carved a niche for itself as the biggest fashion e-commerce website in India. Moreover, Myntra is one of the most profitable companies in the Flipkart group of companies. In FY25, Myntra earned revenues of Rs 6,042.7 crore, whereas profit after taxes was recorded at Rs 548.3 crore.

Through Myntra and Flipkart Fashion, Walmart enjoys almost 50 per cent of the $21 billion Indian fashion e-commerce market. Its dominance makes it a direct competitor to some major players like Amazon Fashion, AJIO, Nykaa Fashion, and Meesho.

During Sinha’s time as the CEO of Myntra, the organization saw continuous growth. Under her leadership, the company not only succeeded in creating its brand in a fiercely competitive market but also ensured that the firm remained profitable, which became even more important for any e-commerce company moving forward. The period during her time as the head of Myntra was characterized by changes in the consumer buying behavior and expectations.

It is yet to be seen what her next career move would be. According to insiders in the industry, she may very well use her rich experience to climb the ladder further to positions of leadership across retail or technology companies.

As Myntra moves to take the next step in its journey, a lot of challenges await the new leaders. As competition gets stiffer and other players in the fashion e-commerce space ramp up efforts in technology, efficient logistics, and customer service, the need to remain profitable even while growing becomes increasingly important.

With Sharon Pais, if she is chosen as Myntra’s new CEO, the challenge will be all the more difficult considering the fact that Flipkart Group, which owns Myntra, is preparing for an IPO.

Essentially, this leadership change is indicative of how the priority of one of the biggest e-commerce systems in India has been shifting.
