The government has withdrawn the Income Tax Bill introduced earlier this year, with an updated version expected to be presented in the Lok Sabha on August 11. This revised bill is set to incorporate most of the recommendations made by the 31-member Select Committee, according to officials familiar with the matter.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had originally introduced the Income Tax Bill in February 2025. The Select Committee’s feedback has been crucial in shaping the revised draft, aimed at addressing concerns raised by various stakeholders.
Officials say the updated bill will seek to simplify tax procedures and enhance compliance while ensuring fairness in the tax system. The government is hopeful that this approach will facilitate smoother passage of the bill in Parliament.
