New Delhi, August 20, 2025 — In a disturbing turn of events during a public grievance-hearing at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was assaulted by a man impersonating a petitioner. The attacker, identified as 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya from Rajkot, Gujarat, presented documents demanding the release of a relative from Tihar Jail before launching the attack—slapping her and pulling her hair. The CM sustained no physical injuries but was left visibly shaken and is currently under medical supervision.

The man was swiftly apprehended and is being interrogated at the Civil Lines Police Station. Authorities have reached out to Gujarat Police to verify his identity and motive.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across political lines.
