Ajay Devgn’s latest film, De De Pyaar De 2, has had a decent but not extraordinary run at the box office over its opening weekend. After a fair start on Day 1 and a mild jump on Day 2, the film continued to show slight growth on Day 3 (Sunday), helped by family audiences and urban multiplex circuits.
The film, which also stars Rakul Preet Singh, R. Madhavan, Ishita Dutta, Meezaan Jaffrey, Javed Jaffrey and Gautami Kapoor, released to mixed reviews from both critics and viewers. While many have praised Ajay Devgn’s comic timing and the light-hearted treatment of relationships, others felt the sequel doesn’t match the freshness and impact of the original De De Pyaar De.
Directed by Anshul Sharma, De De Pyaar De 2 is positioned as an urban rom-com with emotional undertones, revolving around complicated modern relationships, age-gap dynamics, and family acceptance. The presence of R. Madhavan and Meezaan in key roles has added more star value and helped attract a younger audience segment.
Despite the mixed word-of-mouth, the film has managed to hold reasonably well over the weekend, and its performance on Monday and weekdays will now be crucial in determining its overall box office fate. If the film maintains steady occupancy and benefits from limited competition in the rom-com space, it could emerge as an average to above-average grosser.
