The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) registered a sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, winning 202 out of 243 seats, and securing a commanding majority in the state. The results, declared on Friday, have firmly re-established the NDA as the dominant political force in Bihar’s electoral landscape.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party, winning 89 seats out of the 101 it contested. Close on its heels, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) delivered an equally impressive performance, securing 85 seats. Together, the BJP–JD(U) combination has cemented a stable majority, making government formation a smooth affair for the alliance.
Adding further strength to the NDA tally, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP (RV)] delivered a stunning performance by winning 19 out of 29 seats it contested. The strong showing of the LJP (Ram Vilas) has reinforced Chirag Paswan’s political relevance in Bihar and within the NDA fold, especially among Dalit and youth voters.
On the other side, the opposition Mahagathbandhan faced a major setback. Tejashwi Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which had won 75 seats in the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls, slumped drastically to just 25 seats this time. The Congress, another key partner in the alliance, fared even worse, managing to win only six seats, underlining a sharp erosion in its support base in the state.
The 2025 mandate clearly indicates that voters have backed the NDA’s narrative of stability, development and governance, while sending a strong message to the opposition to rethink its strategy and leadership approach in Bihar.
