After the death of Krishna Chawla (81), who was battling cancer for the last five years, her body was donated to KGMU Lucknow on Monday night. Her daughter Nishi Singh fulfilled her last wish and the body was donated to the Anatomy Department of KGMU. Nishi Singh said that her mother had registered on July 7 2014. She told that her last wish was that her body, which was useful to the family, should be useful to medical students. Krishna, a resident of Ashok Marg, Patiala House, Lucknow (U.P), used to inspire other family members to donate their bodies.
She had been suffering from cancer for five years & after her death on Monday night (30th NOV 2015), her daughter Nishi Singh fulfilled her last wish. Nishi Singh said that she was a very strong and resilient woman from within.
Nishi Singh, daughter of Krishna Chawla, who donated her body for medical studies at King George’s Medical University, was honored. This honor was given to Krishna Chawla for setting a courageous, inspiring, and exemplary example by donating her body posthumously. Nishi Singh, who received the honor at the felicitation ceremony organized by the Anatomy Department of KGMU, said that it was a matter of pride for her. Her mother had set an exemplary example. This inspires people. She explained that her mother, Krishna Chawla, was always at the forefront of social work. In addition to honoring the loved ones of body donors, KGMU has also decided to provide free medical treatment. These people will not have to stand in line anywhere for treatment.

Mrs Krishna Chawla was the elder sister of Dr Chunni Lal Khetrapal (25 August 1937 – 21 July 2021) who was an Indian chemical physicist and a vice chancellor of the Allahabad University. He was known for his studies in chemical physics, particularly in the field of Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. He was an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and the National Academy of Sciences, India. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards in 1982, for his contributions to chemical sciences.
