Akshay Kumar says he didn’t follow trends while choosing his horror-comedy over action-driven box office hits.
Akshay Kumar is preparing for his much-awaited comeback to comedies with horror-comedy “Bhooth Bangla,” which is a comeback of sorts for Akshay Kumar with renowned filmmaker Priyadarshan. Although there is a gradual build-up of enthusiasm for Akshay Kumar’s upcoming horror-comedy, much of the discussion surrounding his film is centered around its release, especially in light of the huge success of “Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge,” which is currently ruling the box office.
However, Akshay Kumar does not seem to be bothered by the current trends and comparisons in the film industry. Akshay Kumar, in response to this, made it very clear that his choices are based on content and not trends or box office releases.
“We Didn’t Think About Trends”
In a recent conversation, Akshay opened up about whether the release of Bhooth Bangla’s timing was influenced by the success of action-packed films like Dhurandhar 2. The actor dismissed this idea and said that his team never took trends into account when making the film.
Akshay said that the only thing that mattered while making the film was that the story be a good one. “When we made this film, we didn’t look at what the current trend is; we looked at whether the story was good or not,” he said in an interview.
Akshay also admitted that his film Dhurandhar 2 has been a success and said that it is a “great film.” He said that both films are in completely different genres and that the films attract completely different audiences.
A Clear Genre Divide
One of the key points Akshay emphasized was the target audience. While Dhurandhar 2 is a high-octane action thriller with a darker theme, Bhooth Bangla, on the other hand, is a light-hearted horror comedy meant for family entertainment.
“This is a different film,” Akshay said, adding, “It’s a genre where if people are watching an action movie like Dhurandhar 2, they can enjoy a comedy if offered a different option.” His statement reflects a general idea that the Indian audience is one of diversity and capable of enjoying multiple genres simultaneously.
Priyadarshan, the director of the movie, also reflected a similar idea when he said:
“The success of movies like Dhurandhar 2 and other action dramas doesn’t mean there’s no scope left for other genres.”
Reunion With Priyadarshan Raises Expectations
The association of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan has been responsible for giving several iconic comedies in the past, and hence Bhooth Bangla is one of the most awaited films of the year. Several fans are already comparing this film to several other classics like Bhool Bhulaiyaa; however, the makers assure that this film has a different story and a different genre as well.
The film has a talented cast that includes Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi, all of whom are known for their comedic performances in films in the past.
The film is being produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films and is set to release on April 10.
