PM Modi vows to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ ahead of Bengal polls

Must read

PM Modi: In the wake of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written an emotional letter to the people of the state, expressing his grave concern about the state’s current situation and his vision for a “Viksit” or developed and prosperous Bengal. The letter is being circulated by party workers across the state in the run-up to the polls.

Starting his letter with “Joy Maa Kali,” PM Modi said that the coming days would decide the fate of West Bengal for years to come. He said that the decision taken by the people would decide the future of the younger generation. “Everyone who dreams of Sonar Bangla is in great pain. Their pain gives me pain in my heart,” he wrote, adding that he has taken a decision from the core of his heart to develop the state into a developed and prosperous area.

Pointing out the achievements of the NDA government in the last 11 years, the Prime Minister said that the welfare of the people and the concept of inclusive growth have remained the core of his government’s policies. He said that despite what he called “non-cooperation” from the state government, some central government schemes have made a big difference to the people of West Bengal. The Prime Minister said that nearly five crores people have been brought into the banking system under the Jan-Dhan Yojana. Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, 85 lakh toilets have been built in the state.

PM Modi further said that loans to the tune of ₹2.82 lakh crores have been given to small traders and entrepreneurs, which has helped increase self-employment and small businesses. He said that 56 lakh senior citizens in the state are beneficiaries of the Atal Pension Yojana, while over one crore families have been provided LPG connections under the Ujjwala Yojana, which has liberated women from the necessity of cooking with traditional fuels. He also said that over 52 lakh farmers have received direct financial assistance under the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

In his letter, the Prime Minister expressed strong disapproval of the Mamata Banerjee-led government, holding it responsible for administrative failures and appeasement politics. He stated that West Bengal, which was at the forefront of defining India’s economic and industrial policies, is now experiencing the migration of youth because of a lack of opportunities and growing concerns about safety and law and order.

Citing the strong cultural and intellectual background of the state, PM Modi mentioned the likes of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Rabindranath Tagore. He said that the Bengal of these icons is now “shackled by violence and narrow vote-bank politics,” which is very painful.

The Prime Minister also mentioned issues such as illegal infiltration and women’s safety, saying that the “dignity and pride of Sonar Bangla” must be restored. He said that if given the chance to serve, he would give every moment to ensure development, security, and prosperity in the state. He said that he would work to ensure better access to healthcare through Ayushman Bharat, better employment opportunities for youth, empowerment of women, and restoration of the cultural glory of Bengal.

In conclusion to his letter, PM Modi appealed to the people to join him on what he termed as a journey of transformation. He appealed to the people to make a collective promise to achieve the vision of “Viksit West Bengal” by 2026, as he emphasized that change is inevitable and that the state needs a brighter and more secure future.
