Bihar Govt Formation: Nitish Kumar Likely to Resign Today

Must read

Political developments in Bihar have accelerated as incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to resign from his post today, paving the way for the formation of a new government. According to official information, Nitish Kumar will chair the last cabinet meeting at around 11:30 am, after which he is expected to submit his resignation. The move comes ahead of the scheduled swearing-in of the new government on November 20 in Patna.

As per a notification issued by the cabinet secretariat department, the council of ministers will meet on Monday. During this meeting, a resolution is expected to be passed to authorise Nitish Kumar to approach the Governor with a proposal to dissolve the outgoing assembly and complete constitutional formalities. Sources indicate that the next government in Bihar will take oath on November 20, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to attend the ceremony. Several top leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including union ministers and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, are also expected to be present at the grand oath-taking event in Patna.

Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) camp is reportedly facing internal strain following its poor performance in the recent Bihar assembly elections. The rift within Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family is said to be widening, particularly after the party suffered a massive setback and failed to challenge the NDA’s dominant position in the state. Political observers believe that the current situation has further consolidated the NDA’s hold over Bihar’s political landscape while weakening the opposition’s bargaining power.
