Delhi experienced another hazy morning on Thursday, November 6, 2025, as air quality continued to decline. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 278, placing it in the ‘poor’ category early in the day. However, experts warn that pollution levels are expected to worsen and may slip into the ‘very poor’ category by evening.
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System, slow wind speed, falling temperatures, and increasing moisture content in the air are contributing to the accumulation of pollutants near the surface. The forecast indicates further deterioration in air quality between November 6 and November 8, when the region could experience high pollution levels.
Environmental experts say stubble burning in neighboring states continues to be one of the significant contributors to the pollution spike during this season. Additionally, vehicular emissions, construction dust, and local industrial activities are intensifying the pollution load in the National Capital Region.
Residents have been advised to limit outdoor physical activity, especially children, senior citizens, and individuals with respiratory conditions like asthma. The Delhi government is likely to review its graded response action measures, including the possibility of restricting construction work, increasing public transport services, and promoting work-from-home options for offices if the situation worsens.
Health specialists recommend wearing N95 masks, staying hydrated, using air purifiers indoors, and avoiding early morning or late-night outdoor exercise. With winter conditions setting in, the city may continue to face air quality challenges in the coming weeks unless weather patterns shift or emission sources reduce.
The rising pollution levels highlight the ongoing struggle to improve Delhi’s air quality, despite policy measures and public awareness efforts.
