Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport today, October 8. With this launch, Mumbai has joined the ranks of global cities such as London, New York, and Tokyo, which have more than one major airport.
The newly built Navi Mumbai airport is a state-of-the-art facility designed to ease traffic from the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and strengthen Mumbai’s position as a global aviation hub.
Officials said the airport is expected to begin commercial operations in December 2025, about two months after the inauguration. Once operational, it aims to serve as an international transit hub, similar to Dubai International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport.
Developed with world-class infrastructure, the DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport is seen as a major boost for connectivity, tourism, and the economy of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
